The 41st International Congress of the Brazilian Intellectual Property Association – ABPI brings to the debate the topic “Intellectual Property and the Circular Economy”. The purpose of the event is to address how sustainable development can join technology and global trade and the importance of Intellectual Property. To this end, ABPI brings together the most relevant professionals in the sector, such as lawyers, legal experts, entrepreneurs, and scholars on the subject.
This year the Congress will be held again completely online from August 23rd to 26th.
In this edition, there will be more than 50 hours of content, and you will be able to choose themes from 4 Plenary Sessions, 8 Panels, and 20 Table Topics, besides interaction and networking spaces. Take the opportunity to meet and network with professionals, companies, and exhibiting institutions.

Anteriormente, o Sr. Sanz de Acedo foi Chefe de Comunicações do European Union IP Office (EUIPO). O Sr. Sanz de Acedo é formado em direito pela Universidade de Alicante, possui um LLM em Direito da Comunidade Europeia pela Université Libre de Bruxelles e um MBA executivo pelo Instituto de Empresa Business School.

As CEO, Mr. Sanz de Acedo works with the Board of Directors and Officers to recommend, formulate and implement policies and programs for the Association; and is responsible for the administrative operation of the Association; the supervision of all staff; and the development and administration of the annual budget.
Previously, Mr. Sanz de Acedo was Head of Communications at the European Union IP Office (EUIPO). Mr. Sanz de Acedo holds a law degree from the University of Alicante, an LLM in European Community Law from the Université Libre de Bruxelles, and an executive MBA from Instituto de Empresa Business School.

Fabiana Quiroga Garbin is an executive with 20 years of experience in the Petrochemical Industry. She took over as director of the Circular Economy Business at Braskem SA in October 2017, to lead the global Circular Economy strategy, with a focus on developing the recycling chain, for the production of recycled PE and PP resins with quality and traceability in South America, expanding the portfolio of sustainable and innovative solutions, the market and new applications for recovery of recycled materials. She is president of the Board of Directors of Plastivida, a non-profit organization that aims to coordinate actions with the various links in the plastic chain, enhance the image, raise awareness of the use and proper disposal of plastic waste. She graduated in Law from the Faculty of Law of São Bernardo do Campo/SP and has a postgraduate degree in Labor and Contract Law from PUC/SP.

Court of Appeals Judge Henrique Carlos de Andrade Figueira took office as president of the Rio de Janeiro State Court of Appeals in February 2021. He was elected for the 2021-2022 period. Graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ) in 1978, he became a judge in 1988, at the age of 31, and served in the Special Judiciary Region until assuming the title in the Special Entrances, judging in Civil and Public Treasury Courts. Seventeen years ago, he took office as a judge, having served in the 1st, 17th, and 5th Civil Chambers.

Graduated in Chemical Engineering from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (1981), Master (1984), and Ph.D. (1998) in Chemical Engineering from the Chemical Engineering Program at Coppe/UFRJ (the Alberto Luiz Coimbra Institute for Graduate Studies and Research in Engineering – Federal University of Rio de Janeiro). Postgraduate in Intellectual Property at Cefet/RJ (2002). She was a researcher at Petroquímica do Nordeste (Copene) from July 1984 to January 1990, and a researcher at Coppe/UFRJ, at the Laboratory of Processes through Membranes, from January 1990 to December 1994. Since 1998, she has been a researcher in Industrial Property at the BPTO – Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office, having assumed the position of head of the Organic Chemistry Division in 2004. In 2011, she assumed the General Coordination of Patents and is currently Director of Patents, Computer Programs, and Topographies of Integrated Circuits at the BPTO.
